Wonderful Walk

solarZero is making it easier to power Kiwi homes with cleaner, greener energy

Two walks to try at the stunning Wenderholm Regional Park.

Access:

Trails start at the pouwhenua carving just beside Couldrey House. Follow the signs from the main carpark.

Distance:

0.5km-5km depending on which track you take. Allow for at least two and a half hours for the latter (perimeter track).

Moderately challenging.

One of the easiest ways to help New Zealand have a positive impact on the environment starts at home. Whether it’s by growing your own food, swapping out single-use kitchen items for reusable ones, or making sure that you sort your rubbish into the recycling bin. Of course, many Kiwis are also choosing to switch to more renewable sources of energy to power their homes.

It’s all part of a mission to help the country reach its target of 100 per cent renewable electricity generation by 2035, followed by carbon neutrality by 2050 – a mission shared by local solar specialist, solarZero.

Determined to help in the acceleration of New Zealand’s transition to be 100 per cent renewable and lower the cost of energy for Kiwis, solarZero combines solar panels, smart battery technology and access to 100 per cent renewable, price-protected electricity from the grid to help you save money on your power bill – including the charging of your electric vehicle.

POWERING ON

During the country’s recent weather events, including Cyclone Gabrielle, 250,000 Kiwi households were left without power. Knowing it’s not nice to be left in the dark, solarZero was able to keep the lights on at their customers’ homes. Smart battery storage comes standard as part of their o ering, with solar energy able to continue to generate energy to continue to top up the smart battery during an outage. Impressively, some customers were still powering key circuits in their home on back-up energy four days after the power was first cut. Thankfully, the service continued to operate in the Hawke’s Bay where many households were plunged into a blackout.

Reliable and resilient, the energy provided by solarZero is also helping New Zealand embrace a greener future. A carbon-positive and Toitū carbonzero-certified company – with certification underway to become Toitū carbonpositive – solarZero harnesses the power of the sun to power homes. The power is in the hands of homeowners to capture the sun’s energy and convert it into usable electricity – at a price that can be up to 30 per cent cheaper than paying for electricity from the grid. The system even features a world-first, ‘streaming-the-sun’ monthly subscription service.

With New Zealand currently embracing renewable resources for 85 per cent of its energy, the team at solarZero hope this technology will help the country reach the goal of 100 per cent renewable. With the solarZero system being friendly to the bank account as well as the environment, it’s certainly possible! solarzero.co.nz
