SOUL GARDEN

A very special collaboration between embroidery artist Fleur Woods and Saben accessory founder Roanne Jacobson has resulted in a limitededition collection of hand-made, wearable artworks, designed to be used as a talisman to give the wearer the strength to take on the day, whatever may come their way.

After double tapping everything on Woods’ Instagram for many years, Jacobsen reached out to her during lockdown. The two connected, and several months and lockdown phone calls later, a special collection that celebrated Saben’s 20th anniversary came to life.

“I started working with the eye and the flowers. I call them my soul sisters and soul garden because it’s about the eyes being the window to your soul and flora and nature is my muse, but connecting how we see each other,” Woods explains. “How we connect as women, the divine feminine. How we support each other. How nature is so resilient and so are we.” It meant the world to Woods when Jacobson decided to call the collection Soul Sisters.

“For me, handbags are like a talisman,” explains Jacobsen. “You feel like you are prepared to go out and face the world and it gives you that feeling of power so to combine that idea with the spirituality of Fleur’s artwork I feel like I can take on whatever challenges are going to be ahead of me. It’s a beautiful synergy.”

In addition to the Woods collaboration pieces, a nod to the art of craft is found throughout the Soul Sisters collection with braided leather and a contrasting blanket stitch used on several of the key pieces. saben.co.nz fleurwoodsart.com

Boutique fashion transforming lives

Each ReCreate garment is like a carefully planted seed. With care and nurturing it grows something much greater, creating a brighter future for each craftsperson through fair employment, training and empowerment. So, it’s apt that ReCreate’s spring shoot took place in a greenhouse. Founder Erica Gadsby became inspired to launch ReCreate through her volunteer involvement with a marginalised community in Cambodia. Since 2013, ReCreate has provided training and fair employment for Cambodian women while also being kind to the Earth. ReCreate’s spring collection, as always, has been ethically and sustainably produced, and includes artisan handwoven cotton. We love the new olive and blush colourways, and timeless silhouettes. recreateclothing.co.nz

INTRODUCING THE WOOL POT!

Nadia Lim’s latest entrepreneurial endeavour, The Wool Pot, fills us with warm fuzzies. Not only do these wool plant pots remove plastic from the equation, they’re healthier for plants and soil too.

Made from New Zealand strong wool, a 100 per cent renewable, sustainable fibre, the pots decompose naturally in the soil without a trace while feeding the soil and microbiology. They also reduce transplant shock for plants as you place the pots with the plant directly in the ground so there’s no need to disturb the roots.

Good is giving a set of these wonderful pots away. See page 110 for entry details. thewoolpot.com
