DIY with Resene

A Matariki makeover deck chair project that will see you stargazing in style and comfort.

atariki is a time to reconnect with home and whānau, remember those who have passed, reflect, celebrate and plan. This year, 24 June will be extra special as it’s the first celebration of Matariki as a public holiday.

The Matariki cluster, or Pleiades, is visible on starry nights for most of the year. The constellation disappears in autumn, around May/June, reappearing during the lunar month of Piripi, in late June/early July. The stars’ return signals the start of the Māori New Year.

The best time to see the Matariki cluster is just before dawn – and a great way to do this at home is with a woolly blanket, hot drink and a comfy outdoor recliner.

We gave these classic wooden recliners a two-tone revamp for stylish stargazing celebrations.

You will need

• Wooden recliners

• Rubber gloves

• Resene Timber and Deck Wash

• Scrubbing brush

• Resene Lumbersider

• Small-medium paint brushes

Method

Step 1: Clean the chairs with Resene Timber and Deck Wash, scrubbing well and washing o with clean water. Allow to dry.

Step 2: Starting on the underneath of the chair, use alternate brushes and Resene Lumbersider in colours of your choice. We paired the smoky grey green Resene Lemon Grass with the peppy pink Resene BFF.

Step 3: Apply a second coat of each colour.
