Basic knitting involves three essential parts: casting on, knitting each stitch back and forth and casting o . Get the hang of these three techniques and you’re a knitter.

It’s that simple!

Once you’ve mastered the basics, you can knit your own organic cotton dishcloths very quickly using this method.

You need

• Cotton yarn of your choice

• 5-7mm needles

We used DK/8ply gauge Prosper Organic Cotton. This 100 per cent organic cotton is ethically milled in Peru for Prosper Yarns. It comes in a 100-gram skein with 225 metres and feels lovely to knit with.

Using one skein, 7mm needles and knitting with double threads, you can make three soft, loose dishcloths (approximately 20cm square). For a tighter, firmer cloth, use smaller needles.

METHOD

Step 1

Cast on 25 stitches.

Step 2

Knit 20 rows, or enough to make an approximate square. This may vary slightly depending on your tension.

Step 3 Cast off.
